BIO
Born in Chicago Cynthia Daudet is an award winning contemporary abstract painter known for creative mixed media compositions as well as oil on canvas works. Her paintings combine color, gestural mark making, and texture in order to explore the visual boundaries between figure and ground. While attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, she benefitted greatly from the highly immersive yet hands off program of the school's many professional practicing artists. In a spiritual sense, her work recalls the New York School of the Fifties, particularly Pollock, Hoffman, and Mitchell. Not only does she use traditional oil paints and media, to create richly textured and nuanced surfaces, but the artist also exploits novel materials, including glass, sand, metal, concrete and ceramic shards to create visually striking statements. Her profound affinity for and exploration of materiality is an attempt to be in touch with things bigger and outside one’s self.
Daudet received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and an MFA from the University of Florida. Her work can be found in many private collections nationally.
